Design is the Differentiator.

In recent years, technology and startups have risen to become major facets of the global economy. So much so that some accuse these industries of producing clone business. “The Facebook of Restaurants” or “The Foursquare of Pets” are familiar phrases heard throughout silicon valley and beyond. In a world wrought with technologies all vying for the eyes, minds, and dollars of the consumer, how does a business differentiate itself? Through design. Good design made Apple one of the most powerful companies on earth, and it’s been a proven asset time and time again for other giants like Twitter and Facebook. Consumers want good design, and most companies don’t provide it. That’s where I come in.

For well over 13 years I have been fortunate to work with some amazing people and brands. Some of which you might recognize are Apple, Yahoo!, Microsoft, THQ, Tim Burton, Sony, Disney, Adidas, Obey, and more. My experience with brands, large and small alike, gives me a unique outlook on design—I see it not as a temporary solution to pretty up a page or a piece of paper, but as a long-term solution that drives perception, opinion, growth, and business.

From 2008 to 2012 I worked as Creative Director for deviantART.com. In the company’s first eight years, it managed to accrue just 3 million members. During my time there, we grew that member base past 22 million members, in just four years. We accomplished this through better design, better marketing, and better decisions. With design comes growth, and design is what I do best.
